Is this mix channel dedicated to discussing plastic blends? If so, I am curious if anyone has tried adding sand to their mixture for making climbing holds so they have a textured grip.

A woman in South Africa recently added sand to her plastic blend and made it 10x stronger than concrete

This lady from Kenya?

Appears to be her. However Iโ€™m not sure if that prevents the plastic from being reused in another application, but as we grow around plastics we will find ways to use them!

I would assume if the brick was damaged it could be remelted with a new batch. As I assume all the trimming go
Avatar
Possibly, unless it became like a thermoset plastic, burning rather than melting
Avatar
I thoughts is that the low temperature and sand would offset those bonds from forming
Avatar
Makes sense, a chemical analysis of the blocks would be necessary to see what happens for sure, but I am curious what other mixtures can be made
Avatar
Still wonโ€™t stop nano plastics from flaking off. Granted the only way to stop that is to stop use all together, and the world wonโ€™t

Unfortunately, even when we are ready it will be Atleast 100 years of repairing damages

It is claimed to provides 10 times better insulation than traditional bricks made from clay. The brick has been made using 3D printing and lattice

From waste plastic of course

Ok, I thought someone here said they are using black pipe for the main pipe on the injector. I picked up a black pipe from Lowes hardware store and it has the seam down the middle. UUUGGGHHH - can someone let me know in the US what type of pipe you used or where you got it? I checked with onlinmetals.com and they said they cannot provide as described in the blueprints... Thanks in advance.. (edited)

Depending on your location. Check out Alro metals. Great people and likely have the seamless tube (DOM?) That you need.

Thanks Hal, I ended up finding something similar locally and now am waiting for a machine shop to thread it and cut the opening... If I had to do it all again, I might have just used galvanized pipe since its just for my home project....

Galvanized is nasty!.... stay away, far away from it dude.

Donโ€™t used galvanized steel itโ€™s coated with zinc not good for welding
Avatar
The hint may be in the poster's name?
Avatar
Ok, OK, just venting my frustration. I was able to find a local steel shop and got a DOM pipe. Then I went to a shop and had threads and the injector opening added to the pipe. I am finalizine the electronics (whew) and hope to be injecting soon!!!!

ok, but I hoped since it already was threaded I could avoid welding.... thanks.

FYI, galvanized becomes toxic anywhere over 200c, so it's a bad choice for any part that will potentially see any heat during operation

Oh, good to know since 200C + is needed for this process. Thanks.

Yeah, you can use it in places like balancing legs or handles that won't see heat, to save a little bit of money, but it does not play nice at all with the hotness
