Starterkits are packages of information with everything you need to know to set up Precious Plastic recycling spaces and start tackling the plastic waste problem.
Hi, looks like I'm the first one to comment here. It looks like there are a few of us in Utah on the map of people interested. I'm working on finding ways to reach out to those people and direct them to the resources here if they haven't found them already.
@hanarchy thank you. I have seen a pp workshop, but never built anything. I need to build custom panels for my car, and I hoped pp could be the solution. I just have no idea how to use the machines, what kind of products are a good fit, whether someone needs to build it for me or I can use the machines, etc. I would love to have access to more resources.(edited)
@space-ship Currently there is no pp workshop or even committee in utah, we are trying to get enough local interest going to start something up. The types of plastic we would be working with may not be ideal for performance parts. I'd have to know more about what you are trying to build to say for sure. You're welcome to pm me and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction for your build.
@hanarchy I tried to message you but I got an error, something about "you do not share a server"
Anyway, I am trying to build a custom ceiling and wall in my van. I want to recreate most of this space pod bed from a capsule hotel:
I am all over the country right now, so I can find a precious plastics if I need to. Or I could ask around and find out if this is possible without the tools of a pp shop.
Howdy fellow Utahs! I'm starting up a shredding and injecting workshop in the Ogden region--got my plastic shredder up and running and a good cleaning system, will be working on an injection machine once the weather improves and I have some more free time.
@Lena I own a mattress recycle company in Layton and am generating high quality plastic from it

I’d like to partner with someone on it

I guess this can go out to anyone. Feel free to come tour my mattress recycle company in Layton and connect. We have a couple projects and plastic is one I’m trying to convince my partners on. We are a warehouse just off Fairfield. Message me if you want to network

I'm still pretty small scale. I'm currently only able to process a few pounds of plastic in 4 hours, which will only be useful for supplying materials for a small injection plastic business. Until I can scale up I'm pretty limited.
@Lena If you’re open to it I’d love to see what you’ve got so far. Me and you are the only ones in Utah right now trying to make this work lol. I can recruit others but we need a network of this is going to be worth our time.
Give me some time and I'm sure I'll be in a place where I can show you what I have going--I'm just starting up and don't intend to scale up any time soon because I'm essentially just recycling the plastic that my friends and family generate for now. What I'm more concerned about is turning the plastic into products that will last for a longer time period as my goal is to be a sink for plastic and until I can get that part of my mixed workspace going I have no need of expanding the shredding side. My long-term plan is to focus on an e-commerce business supported by my plastic recycling manufacturing capabilities, and that takes products.
@wabel Slow. I just finished building my injection machine and am trying to come up with some good ideas for molds to use on my test run. I'm also in the process of moving my shop to a separate building so everything's kind of a mess(edited)
@wabel --I just saw that a few months ago you were wondering what kind of plastic is coming from those mattresses you're recycling. --I have a pretty good setup for testing that involves float testing on different liquids of specific density. I could show you how to make your own or you could bring or mail me a piece.
My partners are working on it right now. It’s the Rocky Mountain recycling education grant. We have a foot in the door with some of the directors with it,

Utahs recycle market is dying and our company is having success. I’d like to revitalize some of these groups

Not to be too spammy but here’s my company instagram. If anyone’s interested in a tour on what we’re doing I’d happily set up a time

Just super eager to network with Recycle friendlies here in Utah. There aren’t many of us and we need to change that
Hey everyone, looks like this group is pretty small haha. I’m looking to do a trial run for a 3d printed injection mold. Does anyone have a machine I could use? Will probably look into building my own once I know I have a good mold
Hey! Willsonsl, sorry I haven’t responded. I’d like to get a community talking here but it gets dead quiet for a while

I’ll just add updates here on Utah recycling updates. We held the Recycling Convention in Utah this month. I was invited to speak at it, as I’m the leading Polyurethane recycler for the state. If anyone’s interested in Utahs recycling movements feel free to reach out
