West Orange here, my goal, a a carpenter and sculptor, is to be creating high end furniture with plastic/wood and to funnel proceeds back into a livelihood for myself and in forming a local community of PreciousPlastic enthusiasts that can source, collect, shred and extrude the raw materials I need to be creating. As this fetus of an idea takes shape, I would love to talk to other locals about how to get this moving. Soon I will be reaching out to my local forums and social media to generate some buzz and see what we can achieve. I love the idea of repurposing plastic waste given how utterly futile current recycling is. I am considering setting up an extrusion shop if that will help catapult this into a workable business once I dig into the actual cost of machinery (though Phase 3 power might be a significant wrench given my workshop only has a 60a feed).

Hi, my name is Aleesha, from The Short Circuits, a FIRST Tech Challenge group based in West Windsor, NJ. I am so inspired by the creativity and innovation that has been happening in Precious Plastic, you guys are so inspiring. My robotics team loves building, well, robots 😆 and learning as much as we can about the world. We were wondering if we could reach out to any of you creators in Precious Plastic to present how we use robotics to learn and become better, and understand more about how Precious Plastic makers use technology to solve a very serious problem. The information that we learn from this will go to a free engineering class that my teammates and I designed for minority and undeserved communities to help more children have STEM literacy. I created a google form for you all to fill out, in case you are interested in helping us out(there is more info provided there). Thanks for doing so much!

Hi everyone. I'm seeking anyone with either a shredder in South Jersey/Philly or somebody who could give me a few tips toward making my own.

If I built my own I'd host it for others in the area. I'm in Cinnaminson.

Hey - I have been in touch with a company in Linden, New Jersey (near Newark and New York City) that has a lot of very nice plastic waste which they are otherwise gradually throwing away. It's medicine vials and lids that were rejected for some quality control reason, never used. Vials would be transparent polypropylene (usually amber, some other colors); lids are in some cases HDPE (single-piece) or combined PP and LDPE (press down and turn type child-resistant lids). I'm looking at the potential shipping cost for an entire truckload to Minnesota, but I'm not sure if it will make economic sense, or if this would take everything they need to be rid of. Someone who is closer might be able to pick up as much as you want and put less fuel carbon into the atmosphere in the process. 🙂
