Only 2000 people in the US are members of pp USA. Out of 227 million. Houston we have a problem!!
4:44 AM
@zmef Where do we start? I watched most of pp you tubes, melted some polypropylene into a mold. Are you setting up some sort of business?
Avatar
@Luke12345 well I am promoting PP locally. I have spoken with two local restraunts about the plastic waste they produce.
4:41 PM
i want to start collecting and get at least a small mixed workspace going to collect, sort, and process plastic and an injection mold to produce something useful.
4:42 PM
my overall goal is to bring awareness to PP
4:42 PM
I actually discovered it while searching for a wat to create hemp plastic for myself
4:42 PM
glad to see you here...was getting lonely

It's amazing that there are something like 330 million American citizens and only around 2000 pp friends on Facebook. Maybe we can make a difference idk. The alternative to plastic products are awesome, how far did you get with hemp? I think it's very regulated to grow it still, like illegal unless you kiss the crown. But, there are many other similar fiberous plants that might work. The pp group used something like wheat bran?
Avatar
People need to be marketed to in order to create a need that can be fullfilled by a product.
8:18 PM
here is some hemp plastic that looks promising
8:18 PM
just need an injection mold
8:18 PM
NEW HEMP PROPYLENE 25% is a hemp filled polypropylene. This is a new standard formula with more hemp! This product is used generally used in injection molding, but may be used for other forming methods as developed by individual users. HEMP PROPYLENE is designed to be a drop-i...
8:19 PM
the beyond plastic group from PP is great

@Plastic Paradigm I’m just beginning my research, but I’m an artist so would love to be able to recycle material to use alongside involving my community, in various ways. Chicago “recycles”, but do they actually?

Yeah that’s the ultimate question 😂
Avatar
Bumblestuff 11/16/2020 4:29 PM
They recycle by making blue bins 😂😑
Avatar
Plastic Paradigm 11/16/2020 4:31 PM
Even in my smaller city, “recycling” is limited to certain numbers only because there isn’t a market to resell the product. So it’s all about profit still...
4:32 PM
Recreation, art, community involvement. That is where Precious Plastics has the upper hand and can really hit the ground running.
4:33 PM
If you ever need someone to bounce ideas or chat/talk at, let me know. I’m determined to see it happen in the US.

@Kyle Inthabandith I just looked at your site. Your mills look very heavy duty. Does kimachine mostly mill metal in those?
3:54 AM
As for the codebase, I've only looked at their gitHub. Last I looked they used react and vue for part of the front end stack.

Hey all , we received a small grant to build a shredder and heat press. We plan on recycling our laser cut acrylic first. Right now I am trying to figure out where to get our shredder parts cut. I've found a local place but wanted to share a neat website I found too, for getting metal parts cut: https://sendcutsend.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAvvKBBhCXARIsACTePW84DuIWixRNu-0tSMXr1qNl6d3zrEWPYCXnVxZtfM2xJdIVRKiZ0UUaApPUEALw_wcB
SendCutSend is an online laser cutting service, specializing in laser cut aluminum, steel, brass, copper, titanium, and more. Instant quotes.

Hi! Inkbird PID controllers are a great starter option. For heater bands make sure they fit your barrel diameter and have a reasonable wattage and match your source voltagr. Various suppliers on ebay, Amazon, alibaba, etc.

Hi everyone in #illinois I live in Chicago and would like to collaborate with people in the area. I’ve got designs I’d like to get injection molded from recycled material. I have a precision sla 3D printer that can print molds for us to inject into. I can make the molds in about a day at low cost. Anyone interested in working together? I have the cash to buy an injector, but I live downtown and don’t have space for the machine.

Hey! I apologize for my late response. The department of art and design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale used to do this, so I know it’s possible. I’ve been told that generally there is some degradation which requires a certain percentage of “virgin” or unused PLA to be mixed in to maintain quality.

Update: Purdue Northwest's Hammond Campus is finishing up a senior design project which includes making a shredder and injection molding machine. They hope to use it to start a recycling workshop on campus.

I'm also looking to buy 100% recycled 3d printer filament for my job, if anyone knows anyone lol. (edited)

In case anyone recalls, we're a group of makers without a space yet. But that may change soon! We just started favorable talks with the local university to host us. Just our meetings for now, but they have a few buildings that could be turned into a community workshop if the relationship goes well.

Hello, my name is Priscilla. I recently found a maker’s cooperative work environment with SO MANY TOOOOOLS. And I went to their open house last night. It was really neat but they have an insane amount of tools for community use open 24/7 and i want to build a shredder. (There is a monthly fee of $50 per month but that’s nothing compared to the amount of offerings they have and it’s a learning environment) but they also do like community voting on stuff I’m not sure how often but they put things to votes on buying machinery too. But they do 3D printing / sewing / CNC / everything you could want out of wood working, hot metals, cold metals/ welding/ small metals etc. I think there is room for the plastics world in there but yeah. If anyone has experience in building things or would like to team up on a project and are in Chicago I would love to work together!
