Hi Georgia! First one in! My name is Daniel Snider and I am a product designer and also run a public charity called The Pillyr Foundation based in Atlanta GA. Its mission is to deliver artistic and functional community projects that cultivate vibrant public space.
Past projects include public art, a custom-designed playground, bus stop shelter, semi-permanent street safety improvements and more! I'm working on a local partnership which aims to recycle plastic to create built environment products (street benches, trash cans, vertical delineators, pavers, etc. ), material for public art and for other products made by sustainability-focused social enterprises.
Very excited that v4.0 has finally released and we're hoping to get machines and a product prototype done by the summer. If you live in Georgia (especially Metro Atlanta) and want to get involved please reach out! If you don't live in Georgia and just want to connect I welcome that as well! To see our past work check out https://www.instagram.com/pillyratl/. Thanks!

Starterkits are packages of information with everything you need to know to set up Precious Plastic recycling spaces and start tackling the plastic waste problem.

Hello, noch much activity showing in southeast GA. We are in Brunswick and based loosely around a church. Should we start with becoming a community point and collection site and then quickly expand to shredding? I am just wondering if it makes sense to collect if we do not have a way to shred/sell the materials. ANyone needing raw materials in GA? What is a minimum activity to start out with?
Hey everyone! I'm brand new here, but am super pumped to get GA on the Precious Plastics map! I'm located Smyrna, about 15 miles NW of Atlanta. Has anyone gotten a community group started yet? I know it's been a tough year to get people in person for collaborating, but I think there are safe ways to go about getting a GA based community started, if there isn't already one.
A little about myself - I currently work in Research and Development for a graphics solutions company and have a working knowledge of extruders and different hydraulic presses. I have 5+ yrs experience running a Leistritz twin-screw extruder.
Ultimately, I am interested in starting a collection site here in the metro area and hope to build shredder and extrusion workspaces that process the locally collected plastic. Any amount of guidance would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get started on this journey!
@coryelizabeth - welcome on board - that are interesting skills. I am stunned to see the Leistritz extruder, looks very well done and the precision is awesome. Happy to know more about from you, in particular whether PET may run more consistently on a twin extruder.

That's how I had it on mind too
Also brand new here. Short on expertise, but I think what we're probably mostly missing are people interested in involvement with this. I think a subreddit might be a good place to organize the community. And it seems to me that we might be able to garner some interest by contacting people at the various makerspaces around the metro, like Geekspace Gwinnett, or Decatur Makers. Green activist groups might also be interested in organizing for collection points.

Makerspaces might even be good locations for the machines themselves, if they or their members are interested in hosting them and working together to cover the costs.
Hello here, @coreyelizabeth we just started creating a community point in coastal ga
Far enough from you that you should create your own. But we should stay in toch! We have a community interest meeting on May 22 which we broadcast on yt as well. All the info is on our new fb page. Maybe we can sell materials between our locations. https://facebook.com/PPGoldenIsles(edited)
@coryelizabeth@octopusforgood I agree that places like Decatur Makers would be a great start. I'm in Decatur, I wouldn't mind reaching out to them if we came up with a general idea of what we'd want to accomplish with them. I dont think they're fully open yet due to covid but I think they're plan is to open to the public this summer.
@Shaun_Regenbaum@HTK sounds like the above people are ready to start as well in the atl area. @Andrea @coreyelizabeth @octopusforgood we have our fist community forming meating for coastal Georgia this Saturday
Feel free to. Join us on YouTube live or in person https://youtu.be/_si18oXU_G0

Hello Toby! I'm a couple hours down the coast from you in St. Augustine. Planning to manufacture landscaping products, and I'm going to need a source of shredded plastic. How's is going up there?
