11:35 PM
I'm making a basic little planning document for things to throw together in a Django webserver....I'll figure out a way to share once I get a sec
11:36 PM
I also have some basic webapps that I was making for the store I worked at....gimme a few days to remove any identifiable info & I'll throw up the basics on a github file or smth
Avatar
Also maybe call the category "space" development? Site to me always sounds like website
1:24 AM
(or not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Avatar
definetly need something other than site
3:55 AM
i'll change it to space for now
3:56 AM
i will forever be in terminology/naming scheme hell
🤣 1
3:56 AM
i decend deeper with each page i make lol
Avatar
Turns out categories aren't as simple creatures as they seem ;p
Avatar
the category is simple and works fine, i just obsess over optimizing names and other things
Avatar
lol, when I first saw this new channel I got really excited about designing and building our own rockets and/or mini satellites! 🚀 🛰😲 (edited)
8:47 AM
But I guess maker spaces are cool too 😏

When I worked in a machine shop briefly they seperated chips and scrap as much as possible, the laser cutter would occasionally drop parts into the water tray and that would be fairly mixed metal
Avatar
wood chips are very useful for gardening! to create walking paths, or spread on top of garden beds around germinated seedlings. i imagine they're also useful for rocketmass heaters
6:36 AM
found this page when looking if tube benders are documented anywhere on wiki
9:24 PM
They had some extensive tours of workshops, and some good products/production workflows
9:25 PM
(also discussed CE certification, and safety systems, i was just diving into all this myself! )
9:26 PM
(someone made a school desk! reprapable schools )

Is space development for physical spaces? DAOs might not be the right term here. Imagine a Tesla that runs by itself doing Uber rounds until it generates enough money to buy another Tesla car, and so on. That mechanism fits the DAO definition better than a bunch of people kumbaya-agreeing and voting for things to selves-govern - I wouldn't call this "improved democracy" a DAO (edited)

That's an apt description of how I'm planning to fund renovating / constructing homes in Detroit. It's quite a big experiment to see if it will work, and can sustain something as important as people's desire of affordable housing and a safe place to raise a family. DAOs are still quite an early form of coordination, so I think many people are still experimenting with them. It reminds of a bunch of curious strangers who stumble upon an abandoned mansion that no one really owns or understands, but offers the promise of a better life.

(I am only half joking.)
As largest mall landlord in the US sheds its malls, CMBS holders, such as bond funds and pension funds, take the losses.
4:05 AM
They have a bio room, generic office space, a lathe/milling room etc, a 3d printing closet/room, a "hot" room for welding/torching/grinding etc (used a garage i think), and a storage space
4:06 AM
video has some antics just fyi i guess
4:06 AM
I am going to follow up with them on all this, but
4:07 AM
They mentioned that they may be going quiet for a bit on their artificial spider silk work,i don't know if this is a develop+implement, then open source thing (so others can't beat you to the market etc), or if they won't open source it, so i do want to look into all that
4:08 AM
Even without the spider silk, the spinerret+spooling system could be used for reformed cellulose (rayon), and that could also be made into carbon fiber as a microfactory level!

Malls have a lot of existing infrastructure and advantages for converting to dense urban housing or indoor farming. I think one challenge is: do people really want to live in integrated live/work arcologies, and what design changes or price incentives would convince them? At least, until sea levels rise and massive human migration seeks out any viable shelter.
Avatar
I need to grab the video, but another aspect is that they are designed, almost at a core level to be a mall, so there can be some difficulty in adapting them, but it depends

I'll put it in my log later (and eventually come around to making pages on it), but i did some wikipedia edits/redirects, as there seems to be some terminology hell "Low Pressure Die Casting" vs "Low Pressure Permanent Mold Casting" / Colique Casting etc "Gravity Die Casting" vs "Permanent Mold Casting" etc

what is reverse tilt pour? he mentions tilt pour but what is reverse?

Our foundry specializes in permanent mold casting A356 alloy. We melt only the best certified aluminum alloy ingot to craft our casts.
3:14 AM
I guess it has to do with the "parting axis" of the mold

This YouTube Channel Called "WAY OUT WEST with Sandra and Tim" Some sort of Farm/Homestead type thing based in Ireland https://www.youtube.com/user/WayOutWestx2/about https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY5_KS72QmaK7aaWMil4q1Q/about
We live on the West side of Ireland, and this is a blog of our life here on our little farm. Sandra and Tim
A spin-off from our channel 'Way Out West with Sandra and Tim', this one is all about what goes on in Tim's workshop...
3:21 AM
I specifically found the channel due to looking into this monorail mentioned by Tom Scott
3:24 AM
3:25 AM
Which especially makes sense with all the muck they deal with!
3:26 AM
Not sure of the advantages/disadvantages, but they also have full on (although supposedly, smaller gauge?) railways going now as well: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlyD5gnqylArkIr49Rax3A8gTs3mvoCAU

3:26 AM
Neat logistical bit
3:28 AM
They also mention steam engines in the above video so? https://wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/Steam_Engine
3:28 AM
Altogether really neat channel that has a great sort of place for prototyping akin to FeF
3:29 AM
They already do quite a bit of prototyping!, although not too much CAD / High Tech aspects, moreso just "i had this on hand so made it work", but altogether really neat

They essentially made a septic system as one of the first projects, but it went unused so is now just kept there as a bit of history (and good clickbait)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_(geography)
Aspect can have a strong influence on temperature. This is because of the angle of the sun in the northern and southern hemispheres which is less than 90 degrees or directly overhead.
In physical geography and physical geology, aspect (also known as exposure) is the compass direction or azimuth that a terrain surface faces. For example, a slope landform on the eastern edge of the Rockies toward the Great Plains is described as having an easterly aspect. A slope which falls down to a deep valley on its western side and a shallo...

well, these are good indicators, reflected also in the markets I have around, ... Underground economy & friends https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_D -
System D is a manner of responding to challenges that require one to have the ability to think quickly, to adapt, and to improvise when getting a job done. The term gained wider popularity in the United States after appearing in the 2006 publication of Anthony Bourdain's The Nasty Bits. Bourdain references finding the term in Nicolas Freeling's...

I can highly recommend Crunchbase newsletter btw.

There was a great Ted talk or something on the underground economy / dark economy / shadow economy/ whatever you want to call it. They mentioned how it only really supplies stuff that people want but can’t get conventionally (illegal drugs vs alcohol etc)/can’t find at a price they can deal with (re gas shortages and bottled water resellers in a crisis, lr heck even that one Toilet-paper Hoarder during covid), so that was a really neat way of looking at them / how to address it
9:17 PM
Granted i was already pro-legalization, and harm reduction, yada yada yada, but i found it really neat
9:18 PM
On another note one thing I thought would make a good page is “Lemonade Stand Capitalism” Or something
9:18 PM
BASICALLY
9:18 PM
The way most people think of capitalism is like Lemonade stand A vs B, where people are rational actors, and no shenanigans are done by the business.
9:19 PM
I’ll need to grab the link, but there was an “Urban Dictionary” entry that summed up what the current reality is like that i found great
9:20 PM
9:21 PM
Granted oversimplification and goofyness, but I thought it is a good addition to rhetoric/words to describe these complex things. (edited)
9:22 PM
Because the “lemonade stand capitalism” can somewhat work and be good (small scale “that boss is a jerk” / jobs as a thing themself, labor issues aside), but people don’t get that =/= reality at times, at least that’s my Opinion (edited)

right - yes, would be interested in alternatives, I think it might be too late escaping the elite's way, 15 min city, no cash, bio-metrics, ai-driven cars dropping you at the police station - making sure you pay your fine, ... pretty much every square meter on this planet is sold out - a matter of time you can buy a family bundle of fresh air .. Will look into, became a bit a hobby of mine recently 😉 (edited)

It’s hard to make an alernative, at least large scale. Small Semi-Self Sufficient Anarcho-Communist Homesteads/Communes can work, but they still rely on the outside society for things like Semiconductors etc (although Open Source Hardware and Digital Fabrication is disrupting this) Things like Petrochemicals (lubricants/greases, coolants, cutting/tapping fluid, sufricants, etc) and Engineered Wood Products etc will probably always remain at some larger scale thiugh
9:30 PM
I think i made an OSE wiki page on it sometime, let me grab the link
9:32 PM
I haven’t reread / edited those in forever, let me check they aren’t horrible too RIP (edited)

Also on the note of this, as long as we control Democratic Backsliding in areas like here in the USA, and push for enough regulation, as well as Unionize, the current model can somewhat work
9:34 PM
It’s sort of like some ultra-janky engine that can somewhat run on it’s own, but will stop/break or even BLOW UP if left unattended by an expert. (Re: Every time deregulation of the economy, or privatization of utilities was pushed for)
9:36 PM
I’ll post it over in #readers-digest to prevent spamming this channel further, but i saw a great video essay that was tangentially related to this too

On a more space planning related note, this was a very nice setup someone made for a compact fab shop.
