@Ken Makunga prefers email so I’ll archive this channel for now . There might be a more appropriate channel to exchange help for the D3D printers

This is very much what I would like to do on a small scale. I'm looking to put a build camp together now.

What is it exactly?

Oh I see, it's the d3d thing, I thought that effort had disappeared... It's been years since I last heard of it.

So a 3d Cartesian robot with several heads for printing etc. Like a snapmaker, there are a few others. "Flexible" diy-level manufacturing machine might be a better description.
12:04 AM
I shouldn't say diy level, done people can diy pretty good stuff,. It's a struggle to describe the capabilities of such a machine. "Arts and crafts" grade maybe?

Anyone by chance digged into 4th axis 3D print ? Looking for suitable Marlin firmware, and perhaps a slicer. More of a fun project, building the machine around the job. Got to extrude/print 1m diameter objects, with hopefully polishing/post material removal whereby the latter makes me wonder we could run CNC ops from Fusion360 (Lathe/Turning) on a 3D printer board as well. Here some research : https://forum.osr-plastic.org/t/flexi-print/8540

Dunno much about available software though sorry

ye, that could work without software & controllers, ... , for simple shapes - printing on a mould, using simple 'follow' mechanics as in copy machines could work. it's just 2 linear actuators, a rotary, well and a silly extruder still digging - transforming polar coords might be trouble at 1m, perhaps quaternions to the rescue 🙂 let's see, will spam here soon again

I'm picking this up again, cs-cart in all it's weight and clumsiness became way to cumbersome & expensive (debugging, extensions, ...) Was wondering how to turn this into a multi-instance system, and get past the SPA problems. it's currently using React and claims to be servable from static/server but never tried.

Another week later, couldn't find much about 4/5th axis printing, except rumors that it might be the next big thing in 3dprint 😕 So excited 😊 can't wait to put a milling head for finishing on it research updated : https://forum.osr-plastic.org/t/flexi-print/8540

good news however, it seems possible to run the CNC CAM on the same board, Octopus v1.1 for now - LinuxCNC seems to be able but as so often, expensive ...

step by step, still wondering what breakout board & firmware to use, need it as printer (marlin) and CNC (fusion-360) let's see, enhancing kinematics for another axis shouldn't be a big deal, in theory 🙂 - some to many boards might run out of address space (cartesian) quickly

I don’t know about what a custom build would look like, and the CAM is especially hard as i think no current Open Source slicers exist. Even the “Open5X” used Rhino or something IIRC
9:24 PM
There was some separate design jn japan i think, and iirc they are publishing a slicer?, let me grab the link.

Marlin @ Octopus Pro - TB6600 Drives, darn slow, should be fine for the first prints (viddy https://www.instagram.com/p/CslFG6NIpOd/) updates: https://forum.osr-plastic.org/t/flexi-print/8540 (nothing new) next: z-axis, tool - changers (marin built-in) 🙂

I’ll look for a good video, but you know the X and Y planes in algebra and whatnot, right?
5:28 AM
like a normal 3 dimensional printer ala 3d printer has z axis and all
5:29 AM
but what does 4/5 axis printing look like

They add rotation in two directions
5:31 AM
So think of like holding a cup or whatever and painting it. That twisting rotation of your wrist can be really handy.
5:32 AM
Main application is mainly Propellors and stuff like that in my opinion
5:32 AM
I forgot what letters the use, it was something odd like “U” and “w” or something

alrighty, back to the drawing board. still puzzled how the interface should look and work. looking around in the maker world, and developing countries unveiled more design constraints. goal is to have some easy way to automate processes for hand crafts, eg: drill patterns, extruding/printing plastic/clay/concrete, milling, welding, etc... To 'train' the robot, I am a bit stuck with electronics and development environments, on top, most boards can't be debugged and rely on C. Klipper seems tempting since you could run/debug/extend it on an ordinary PC (desired) but it's in bloody Python, but the idea is great, a basic firmware (as Firmata), controlled via a VPL (Node-Red). For now, I am going ahead with hacking Marlin, eg: adding Modbus/TCP socket support, as well flexible I/O through custom GCode commands. Ideas are welcome. Perhaps there's an Opensource GUI builder, ideally via VPL as well (wrote one 10 years ago). https://www.instagram.com/p/CzTV6p3Kumg/?img_index=2
