Hey @currylove - you mean industrial recyclers? And looking in a certain area or the whole of Africa? (there is a lot :D) And what product/output are you looking for - flakes, profiles, sheets, products?

yes, I mean industrial recylcers

I'm in Kenya, so if there's one in Kenya or the EAC that would be perfect

looking for flakes...though I'm also open to other products

Oh you're in Kenya too! Karibu at the Flipflopi Project in Lamu 🙂 https://www.instagram.com/theflipflopi/ We have an industrial setup as well as Precious Plastic machines and are building boats and furniture. But I think if you want to compare with a commercial industrial recycler, there are more in Nairobi, like https://www.ecopost.co.ke (I can find some others for you) - although many of them sadly mix in sawdust, so often its not 100% plastic Where are you based? Do you have machines?

I'm in Kinoo, Kiambu County and I've just started in this recycling industry. I started by collecting plastic waste from individual homes / apartments and selling them but I want to try out in setting up a recycling plant

I stumbled across Ecopost, and was curious to know what else is being done from recycled plastic waste

how much do you sell the precious plastic machines for?

we are not selling the machines, we are just building / modifying them for our project (at least for now)- but there is Plastiki Rafiki in Nairobi building and selling https://plastikirafiki.com/the-shop/ (just as a disclaimer: it's a school, with inhouse machine builders, but a bit juakali, so in case you are interested, don't expect a super established business, but rather a group of enthusiastic people who realised that there is a need for small scale recycling machines, so they are doing their best to provide some for the kenyan community) (edited)

I am interested in building the machines and pulling them on a trailer to communities across Africa and then using them (powered by solar) to recycle plastic in the community and produce a output that the community could use. We will help transport other recycling out of the community and will focus on education and helping set up recycling areas so that we can revisit and collect recycling on a periodic basis. Is this something that you have seen before, would it be beneficial in Kenya? Do you have any ideas on the type of output that would be beneficial eg shoes, utensils, chairs etc?

@OliviaShanks yay! Would love to see a mobile station coming up in this part of the world 🙂 We actually have a mobile setup and even went with it on our recycled plastic boat expeditions (@theflipflopi) - have a bicycle shredder from Kunststoffschmiede and an injector from plasticpreneur, but nowadays there are many more mobile options 🙂 I guess chairs might be a bit big for a small mobile setup, but utensils/tools could be good. Hard to find a universally relevant item for the whole of Africa I guess haha 🙉 Maybe we can have a bit of a brainstorm around it. Where are you based?

I love the bicycle shredder. I'll take a look at your instagram. How do you power the injector? Another idea was to create reusable recycled bottles to which we would add a water filter but obviously that adds a few more layers of complexity. I am currently based in Jersey, which is a small island of the coast of France. I am currently working out my notice period in my job with a view to then focusing on this project full time from August. I would love to get your thoughts and ideas on the project.

@OliviaShanks I like your ideas. I'm located in Central Kenya and for sure the mobile units on trailers would be great to see. There's nothing like that in Kenya that I've seen on trailers. I only know of flipflopi's mobile unit on a boat as @Kat has metioned. If you target household utensils, plastic chairs and basins you would get a small market.
