hey @Max I have shifted the post that I had ready for monday to today and your post to head out on monday then. So you don't need to rush to get it ready
Dear team, please find the caption for the 'PPM hairpins post' below. Your feedback is much appreciated.
"Fixing your hair for a quick Zoom meeting? Easy. โคต
When everyone began working from home during the early days of the pandemic, Piers and Kayla from @preciousplasticmelbourne got to thinking about simple Zoom meeting up-do's that required minimal effort:
โWith U-pins / French Pins being surprisingly easy and quick to use, we briefed our designer to come up with a simple, but bold interpretation.โ
๏ธ Created from HDPE, each of these giant hairpins prevents about 7 bottle caps from ending up as landfill. We asked Piers and Kayla about what inspired them to choose this material:
โBy this stage, #PreciousPlasticMelbourne had been in full-swing for some time, so opting to create the products from plastic 'waste' was a no-brainer for us.โ
Following the success of this nifty product, we wondered if Piers and Kayla have any plans of creating a broader collection of hair accessories:
โThese days, the majority of our time is spent crafting 100% recycled products for our clients, so whilst we don't currently have any hair/beauty specific projects on the cards for our own business, we're working with a number of brands in these industries - so watch this space!โ
Exciting stuff! Thank you Piers and Kayla for sharing the backstory on these nifty pins. If youโre as excited as we are, do give them a follow at @preciousplasticmelbourne.

Heyo team, here is my post for next monday and was wanting some feedback. The images would be in this order. Open to any comments!
Recycled plastic slicing through
@janos_freuachle is from a knife forging family. โMy father has been forging knives for a long time. I came across Precious Plastic through my studies as a product designer. There we built the machines and used them to make medals for graduates. Later, my father and I started designing these and other unique knives.โ
Janos wants to change the perception of plastic by using it for longer-lasting products that highlight the material properties. โBy processing plastic in our high-quality knives we give the material new value. For the handles, we collect broken polypropylene and shred it roughly. The material is cleaned, sorted by colour and shredded again. Then we select a colour combination and inject it into our handle mould.โ
The unique patterns and colours show where the plastic has come from; how the plastic was saved from landfills and given a new purpose.
@janos_fueachle has many plans for future products as well as building the extrusion machine to escalate production. Give them a follow to stay up to date!

"From plastic waste harvest in the Australian landscape to Art!
Today we discover the incredible artwork of @Chrystal.rimmer. Her passion for recycling plastic starts from an interest in depicting the contemporary landscape. From her observation of remote, rural and urban environments plastic became synonymous with the landscape - itโs everywhere.
โPlastic evokes many questions about our relationship to โnatureโ and our position amongst ecosystems. What is so special about gathering plastic from the landscape is it is both a tool to describe our current condition as well as a free resource โ not forgetting the benefits of removing pollution from our ecosystems.โ
To transform and shape her sculpture Chrystal uses a relief making process which involves making a silicone mould of an object or texture. After heating the recycled plastic in a purpose oven she hands presses the molten plastic into the mould. Once the plastic has cooled she releases the mould and finally uses several joining and welding techniques using a heat gun.
Every piece is unique and haunted by the monstrous and beautiful matter. Once again recycling plastic showed us its diversity and powerful transformation. "

Showcasing what the waste once was.
@stilllifeworkshop have been making their squishy stool for a couple of years now and have perfected the process. Beautiful and detailed every time.
One thing that is special about how @stilllifeworkshop go about recycling is showing where the plastic waste has come from. Their moulding process leaves a lot of the waste recognisable; they donโt need to shred it and melt it directly. This method creates a lot of visual depth in their products.
Take an older stool they made and recently reshared, โplastic bags and bubble wrap squishy stool, long gone but not forgottenโ. The stool top is visually unique, but you can see the plastic bags and bubble wrap.
@stilllifeworkshop uses this technique of keeping the waste mostly as is it to great effect. Their Squishy Stool has had many designs, where bottle caps or milk bottles are easily noticeable.
It is great to see this style that highlights where the plastic has come from. To show the true transformative power of waste and how precious it can truly be.
Beautiful and with a message, how can you not love it?

Rainbow Speckled furniture for Everyday
@plastplan has created a collection called โEverydayโ. The pieces are a series of furniture and household items that emphasise the potential of recycled plastic.
Using the Precious Plastic Sheetpress in their Icelandic workspace, @plastplan hone in on the design aspect of these pieces, creating furniture pieces from one sheet to minimise production costs and manufacturing. This series is a testament to the constant work and development that @plastplan has done, true pioneers of Precious Plastic.
Each piece is unique in composition and texture, even if they are the same design. This is the beauty of working with recycled plastic. Every piece is unique and, therefore, special.
The beauty is in the detail.

Cruising down the street on recycled plastic
@preciousplasticsgv and @hyenaskateboarding collaborated to make 100% recycled plastic skateboard wheels.
Traditional skateboard wheels are made out of polyurethane, a thermoset polymer. So they are made from virgin materials and can't be recycled. If you want to learn more about the different plastic types, check the plastic section on the Academy (link in bio).
"When we first started testing this idea, we werenโt sure if making wheels from recycled materials would function" states, Noah, from @preciousplasticsgv, "but it turns out that replacing this thermoset polymer with recycled thermoplastic works."
@preciousplasticsgv are setting up production of the wheels now and they will soon be available. "As we dial in those details, weโll also be putting together a How-To and making the recycled wheels and moulds available on the Bazar. That way, anyone, anywhere in the world, can make their recycled skate wheels".
To stay up-to-date with the project, follow @preciousplasticsgv and @hyenaskateboarding.

@preciousplastic_karatsu is located in Karatsu City, Japan. Located on the sea, Precious Plastic Karatsu is inspired to โcreate a sustainable and environmentally harmonious communityโ by cleaning the sea by recycling plastic.
Artificial turf is used for childrenโs play areas in Karatsu. It provides an allergy-free alternative for children to play and get exercise. The turf used is rubber, latex and heavy metal-free, so the turf is recyclable.
@preciousplastic_karatsu has now decided to recycle its artificial turf using the injection machine. The turf being entirely polyethylene, the โgrassโ can be cut off and injected straight into a mould.

A bit of a thing to organise, but maybe it can be a simple way! (https://instagram.com/5media_official)

Post for next Monday
Setting the scene in Vienna
Along the Danube Canal Promenade in Vienna, you will find picturesque scenery and some recycled plastic tables! @precious_plastic_vienna were tasked with creating outdoor tables for @taste_donaukanal.
The challenging part of such a design is the UV protection. They looked at waste streams and found that window inlays have a higher UV-impact resistance due to added UV stabilisers, perfectly suited for such a product.
So using this as the bulk of the sheet (the white) and adding colour with laboratory waste, they have been able to extend the life of this plastic in a highly useful way.
Their methods are fairly low-tech as well. Using a pizza oven and a cold press they were able to create these 60x60cm tabletops.
We love seeing the thought go into a product that will be able to withstand the test of time and the elements. Way to go, @precious_plastic_vienna!
Post for next Wednesday
A sculpture that raises awareness - day and night ๏ธ
This sculpture, from @ecotribolife, is made to raise awareness for ocean-bound plastics and recycling. The sculpture uses ocean plastics collected from beach cleans.
It also has lights and electronics so it glows at night. โI've been working on this behind the scenes since lockdown.โ Tyrone, from @ecotribolife, says, โIt's inspired by my road trip to France and Spain between the Covid lockdowns. I was hanging out on beaches a lot, surfing and doing beach cleanups. I saw a kid drop their lolly. They burst into tears at the loss, and, I wondered how we will react, generations from now, when we see the massive ball (lolly) we are dropping by not looking after our oceans and planet.โ
What's Tyroneโs dream? To recreate this sculpture but much bigger. โImagine a 10ft large piece on waterfronts and beaches worldwide. All are made from recycled plastics collected by the community. We could do a community cleanup with schools and individuals educating people on recycling, materials and a variety of environmental issues. The materials would be sorted into colours to create a new lolly specifically for that city.โ
A thought-provoking concept executed beautifully. Exciting to see where the idea goes from here.
Alryt Hugh, I will send a mail, my network is preventing me from doing substantial work on my computer. I take responsibility for this. I am working on it...

Post for 2 mondays, thoughts?
A piece that grows with the community
Frontier Consulting, a company in Tokyo, Japan, decided to create wall art using plastic waste. Employees drew designs for the reception wall where visitors place Precious Plastic tiles by @preciousplastictango.
The design will gradually become clearer as each visitor places the next tile. The project will take approximately one year to complete. The project aims to inspire visitors and stakeholders and lead innovative creations.
The workspace @preciousplastictango, based in Kyoto, made the tiles. Precious Plastic Tango is working in Kyoto to solve the problem of marine debris. They conduct beach cleanups with the local community and host workshops to educate children on marine debris and environmental issues.
These tiles were made from plastic trash collected by the community and picked up during beach cleanups. Frontier Consulting says, "We decided to utilise @preciouslpastictango because we agree with the purpose of their activities."
An ever-evolving piece that educates the community every day - love it!

My following post, thoughts?
Re-envisioning a classic game for a modern battle
"The Battle for the Ocean", made by @le_plastique_autrement and @ovadeisgn, is a revisited version of the Battle Ship game. The rules are the same, but the goal is different.
In "The Battle for the Ocean", you need to clean up the ocean. "Faced with the ecological emergency of the plastic waste crisis, this game aims to raise awareness about the plastic pollution of the oceans threatening marine life, the planet and our health."
"The Battle for the Ocean" is played in pairs, one against the other on two grids where islands of plastic waste are placed and positioned by the players. The goal is to reach and clean the islands of waste and clean up the opponent's portion of the ocean. Each player has boats available to navigate and find the islands.
To help tackle local plastic waste, the game is designed and made with 100% recycled plastic. A twist on a classic to inspire the future - very thoughtful !

Thatโs the journey of Felipe the creator of the Arte 8 project. While studying Felipe was doing beach clean-ups and was more and more worried about plastic pollution. He discover Precious Plastic thanks to @relive_sc which motivated his first steps in his recycler adventure.
It was in Portugal that he created his first keyrings from the plastic waste picked up in the river. The intention behind this object was to gain money to invest in a manual shredder but mainly to transmit a message and alert people about plastic problems. While travelling, Felipe brings his shredder with him to spread the word about Precious Plastic and plastic recycling. He found himself in Cape Verde helping people build a recycling plastic centre.
In 2020, Felipe was back in Brazil and decided to start the Arte 8 project. With the help of @preciousplastic.cotiabr, he built all the machines from Precious Plastic models. More than a recycling workshop he wanted to help people around him create their own recycling workspace. Since then he is been learning, sharing and spreading the recycling process to empower while cleaning the environment.
Nowadays, Arte 8 is getting bigger, with a sheet press on the way, and is still welcoming anyone that wants to learn about plastic recycling."

Hi @Communication Contributor,
I have gotten a new job and will be starting September 1st. So we will have a new person possibly come in and to give the team more time to find a new person to take over I will be stretching out the current schedule. I will make it so its 2 posts a week, starting from this week. I will change the schedule message above and on notion and figma. I will explain more what will be happening in our meeting on Tuesday.
I hope to make the handover process as seamless as possible and am writing up a handover doc that will explain everything. So bare with me and the rest of the team with the handover

Hey Comms team yes we have new Communication Manager
Went through 40something applications over the past 2 weeks to get us the best possible comms lead and grow Precious Plastic. A lot of really great profile and a super tough decision but in the end we went for @callie. She is very experienced and hope she can bring a wave of professionalism and experience to take us to the next level. Here's her website if you want to learn more about her https://www.callieshawnte.com/
She is on PST timezone so comms meeting might have to change to accommodate that. I am planning to join the meeting again for some time and help with onboarding.(edited)
Woohoo thanks! Happy to be here and further the mission of PP through comms! For those that join the comms meeting (@Elora@Andreosba@Max@RODEMUS): Do you mind sending me the timezone that you're in so that we can find one that works for all of us? I'm located in California, so it's 8 hours time difference from Lisbon.

Hi again So, we're quite a global team! I calculated our different timezones and there is only one meeting time that doesn't require anyone to be up super early or super late. This is what it looks like:
Me: 7AM
@Andreosba: 3PM
@RODEMUS: 3PM
@Max: 4PM
@Elora: 9PM
Does that work for everyone? (edited)

Awesome. So let's begin meetings next week, on Oct. 4th. I'd also like to meet on the 11th, and then after that we can meet every other week, like the previous schedule. @Andreosba@RODEMUS@Max@Elora - please DM me your email addresses so that I can send a calendar invite!
Hi guys, Iโm a new user just trying to get my feet wet and Lear as much as I can about the movement and how I can fit in and help. One note. There is a lot of different messaging across different channels. The old more successful PP YT channels seem abandoned, and then a user can go onto Daveโs channel, the one army channel, and the project Kamp channel. I would love to see a PP forum created, like the old v bulletins, where all the info and message gets compiled and people can connect. At the moment I feel there are too many places where people pick up the trail and donโt all end up at the same place. This discord format seems less useful than a bullitin board where long threads with pictures are easier to follow up on and maintain, just my 2 c

Thank you, please do consider Vbullitin. I have been a member of several forums based on that platform and they are great. Very easy for each user to create his or her own threads in the appropriate sun forum and essentially have their own channel or thread dedicated to something very specific, itโs easy to find the threads when searching google for something. And the ability to post many pics and follow ups helps move it forward. Iโm discord itโs hard to make sense of past discussion I admire all the work you guys have and are doing please keep it up

Iโve also added the type of post within notion, but this is definitely open to suggestion based on what types of things youโre discovering in the community - if you have ideas for a Reel, IG Live, YouTube video, a Stories series etc., Iโd love to explore that!
Iโm still trying to get used to this discord thing, I canโt seem to get around how unnecessarily complicated it is. To me itโs like the difference between Tictok and YT. Where the old bulletin boards were YT and this mew format is more like tictok, Much less useful than what it replaced. For starters old messages get lost and arenโt built upon by the community. Itโs sad to see the project have so much success amd recognition, and it has appeared to splinter and lose its focus over the last year. For example the one army YT channel is dead and abandoned. Not putting out updates to the The 350k followers on there is a wasted(pun intended) opportunity. I get that Dave is entitled to regroup and do other things. Finding a new way to organize, and catalize the community Is needed. Discord isnโt it. Maybe itโs good for messaging, but not nearly as open source and useful as the bulletin board system. People in the developing world are more likely to find a forum Than download a new app. Just my 2 cents

hey @jcb thanks for your feedback but this is not the best place for this. I would advise posting on #just-chatting as this channel is mainly focused on communication (IG and stuff..) Alternatively you can also post your feedback here https://feedback.preciousplastic.com/
PP has enabled me the opportunity to help myself & many others- Eternally grateful.
As rep in South Africa, consulting on projects.. Itโs difficult to explain how far PP has reached & what people have done with the idea..
Itโs fkn glorious.
Yet, more to be done.
Letโs

Thank you, I was mostly pointing out that the one Army YouTube hasnโt posted in over a year. I think itโs a missed opportunity to โcommunicateโ Keep up the good work. I wish there was a better place for the community to โcommunicateโ collaboratively. I hope that is ok
