Umm... don't mislabel it as "liqueur"?
Oh... you meant helpful thoughts. Never mind.
please, and with the LDPE what can be done? i ask this because in my place there are a looot of bags
In South Africa, commercial / industrial companies have been compressing shopping bags into heavy garden furniture for many years. (Outdoor picnic tables — weather resistant and heavy as f*&%.) I have no clear idea of the scale of the machines needed. But it is done.do you know the company of South Africa or the man that do this ?
Not off the top of my head. I'll try to find some info. There's a place near me that has a table set. Maybe there's logo on it. I'll check tomorrow. Also, is this the right channel? Should we go somewhere else?
Technically, #just-chatting is a "free play" area. But there is a whole other server for Americans, divided into states. Or you guys can just DM. Thanks
Actually, we just want to get rid of you. The general opinion of America is pretty much at rock bottom on the interwebz. And the rest of us don't want to have to keep hiding our disdain for you. I joked the other day that the only logical solution to the problem of human life is that we don't exist.
Well, that's basically what George Carlin said, why back. And he wasn't actually joking.
I actually said the same thing to Lee Camp, months ago, on Twitter. (His promo banner at the time said he was the "new George Carlin," or something to that effect.)
That's why I haven't fully gotten behind Extinction Rebellion. Are we sure it's a bad thing?
But, hey, if he doesn't like the outcome of the trial, "your" (by manner of speaking) president might help us out with that Or the SOUTH AMERICA section can be renamed Latin America if thats more easy
It was, but then it's tricky to incorporate some of the Caribbean. That's probably how the Mexico slip-up happened.
Ping [at]Too bad that plastic bags from grocery stores will clog our shredders. or at least mine
Can they maybe be fused / compressed to make them brittle enough to shred?
Basically making a hard sheet first, then shredding it? Just speculating. Also, maybe for the idea of turning community gathering spots into temporary shredder workspaces.
It could potentially be turned into a fun workshop for kids or adults. Locally, I've come across a maker who builds exercise bikes that power a blender. So, you throw all the ingredients into the blender and then pedal the bike to make your own smoothie. He does it as a corporate "office party" kind of thing.
Of course, with plastic you don't get a smoothie. But maybe it can be turned into something motivating and/or fun, in a similar way. Has anyone ever tried injecting plastic into a silicone mold?
Yes. Search the chat history. The link on the website is to the owner's trash file, so I can only assume it is older.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W0hWdP7MyA1) There was a lot of styrofoam, and it was mostly difficult to clean up because it was in small coin-sized pieces. Is there a process within the PP universe where people can reuse it?
2) I found a small plastic disc, about the size of a US Quarter, that says "Eco Token". I have no idea where this would have come from, but I have kept it for now because it felt like I was getting paid by nature for cleaning up 😁 so if anyone has any info on that, I would like to know as well
(edited)My company is working in Uganda where we install new electricity mini-grids in some of the most remote, off-grid rural communities.
I'm very interested in that. Do you have some weblinks about it for us?Does anyone know how to get the fabric patches that denote workspaces?

I don't care much where it's hosted, if that's what you mean. As long as the hosting system is robust and likely to stick around.
And it should be open to everyone. That's why I prefer e-mail, for that type of thing. It might be a bit "old school," but still the most universal messaging system.
Especially in my demographics. (edited)I am from the UK too
Or so he claims. @frederikc (ZA) <--- this guy
Umm... no... Lets say that hypothetically, I want to shred plastic by hand
What exactly do you mean? Like cutting it with garden shears or a guillotine? Or a human-powered shredder? I drive past this one every other day, but I've never been. https://www.usplastic.com/default.aspx
Probably similar to that. People probably have to be near one to know about it, specifically. Our local ones don't advertise much, that I can see. But they are near malls.why is the internet always so shit now?
Internet cliques are the new tribes of the 21st Century. There's no sense of cohesion in the real World, (often on purpose: the old "divide and conquer" strategy) so people come together online to hate things in groups. Misery loves company.
That's very superficial. But I think it's part of it.We generally don't have all plastic item places.
Okay. Market differences are probably completely unrelated. I was just wondering. It's highly unlikely that the average American or European city-dweller would not have access to a similar range of products. I can't really picture that. The difference might just be in the percentage that's imported.can somebody help me please
Ask away. We'll try. yeah. i can plead ignorance
Its just offline archiving... yeah, thats it... I'm preserving the original source...
YouTube has a mobile app that allows offline viewing. So if you can screencast from that to do a presentation, I assume you're well within the terms of service (that none of us have ever bothered to read). commercial composting facilities here do not accept compostable foodware

Is it still useful to search for people to collaborate in your own area using the old map?
It could be, but there's no way to tell. Many accounts are inactive, because many people gave up or lost interest since 2017.
For those who still get push e-mails from the forum, they might see your messages... eventually.
But it's a dice roll.i need to know how many km/h can produce the the basic shredder
Rather kilograms per hour, I assume. The pro model should be able to shred 50 kg of plastic per hour
But the question was for the basic shredder (V4 I assume). And with the motor recommended in the basic blueprints, I assume. Who has "real-world" average numbers on that (based on tests)?anything else come to mind?
Depends entirely on what resources are available and what they cost.
Fresh water is usually the first issue. And much of the world is running out of it.
So, water purification and extraction devices? Probably high on the priority list.
If the wood is free (unlikely), you obviously use mostly that. If not, trash is your building material, because trash becomes free the moment someone designates it as "garbage" and chucks it out.was just being nit-picky
Me too. being sane seems overrated
Not so much "overrated," as "unfashionable."

Where? Are removable plastic labels better than paper labels?
You'll probably hear various opinions on that. I would say removable paper. Because... humans.
We all know labels are just a nuisance that almost nobody wants. Shred it... compost it... walk away.
Not sure if the inks on silkscreen prints are a problem. Interesting question. the V3 in this case is the "pro" model people are talking about did I get it right?
The "pro" machines are just ones designed more for output capacity and less for affordability.
They were introduced for the launch of V4 in Janaury 2020.by the time you get something up and running it would have run its course
It could help for the next SARS mutation or outbreak. They are coming fast and furious these days. With multiple strain mutations happening simultaneously, with just 3 to 5 years between major epidemics.
If you consider 100 year cycles to be a "thing," then we are "due" for something similar to the 1918 flu.
Technology has improved a lot of course, but a lot can go wrong in the 18 months needed to produce a vaccine.
Basically all you need are a few catastrophic events to happen simultaneously.
In the case of the 1918 flu, which killed an estimated 100 million people, it happened during WW1. That helped the spread and prevented proper treatment.
Flu still kills about 650 000 annually. With 30 times the fatality rate, we are looking at a potential death toll of 19.5 million for each successive SARS outbreak that escapes the initial quarantine zone. (edited)@tk-betty : where are you located ?

Somehow, my brain always starts to fold over, when trying to understand macro-economics.
Basically, like many people, I know the emperor has no clothes on. And, also like many people, I'm just not sure if he's wearing a jock-strap or not, because I'm too afraid to really look.
It's comparable to the concept in political science called "rational ignorance," where the effort of gaining hidden information, outweighs the benefit of having it. Because... humans.
Also, I just realised I'm way too sleepy to be doing this, right now. Night. neighbourhood watches is not really a thing in Denmark
Yeah, it's probably more common in countries with high crime rates. South Africa qualifies.
In fact, there are already reports of robbers pretending to be Health Department officials doing spot checks for the virus, to gain entry into buildings they can't normally get into.
And we have gangs that use black market plastic explosives to blow open armoured trucks to steal the money headed to bank vaults.
We're "used to" this kind of s$%t-f$%kery.
So, South Africans tend to not "freak out" so much.
But it's still "early" in our outbreak. We'll see... I'm happy to see no cases in Madagascar and hope they have closed borders
I have a friend with a small boat, and I actually asked him if we could reach Madagascar (a joke... sort of 3 cases in Madagascar :(

People are mostly asking: "Is this important right now?"
It's "crunch time" now, with local co-ordination. Besides my own servers, I've muted almost everything else. Too much happening. Information overload (more than usual.)

Well, we know who the billionaire puppets are. That's not difficult. But it's not always clear who pulls their strings.
And I say "we," but frankly, I doubt I'll make it through this. And I'm not sure if the youth who survive will be able to figure it out. They look like morons to me. I could be wrong.that's a friend's place, he bought the entire mountains for 200k
We had access to a multi-generational farm that we could potentially have used to try some subsistence farming during the economic collapse.
But my idiot cousin (already living like a millionaire) lost the farm in his divorce settlement. Moron. (edited)Is cryptocurrency safe?
No currency is entirely safe — crypto or otherwise.
The relative "safety" of crypto depends on governments' ability to shut it down. And with that the architecture of the blockchain being used. If it's widely distributed enough, shutting it down is as difficult or easy as wholesale internet censorship. But there are environmental concerns as well, in terms of running servers 24/7. But we're doing that anyway. Otherwise: No Discord, no YouTube, among many other things...I believe cryptocurrency mining consumes lots of energy?
That can be mitigated by using renewable energy and shutting down servers for several hours a day, when there's no sunlight or an alternative source or storage system.
Also, a cryptocurrency doesn't necessarily have to be "mined." That's just a way to incentivize the expansion of private networks. If a government owns a cryptocurrency, "mining" would be unnecessary.
But governments will never support an auditable money supply. It completely screws with their power structure. What's more safe?
Well, like you said before: Define "safe."

Clearly a safety freak. Does anyone know a type of plastic that has good sound dampening properties?
Professional recording studios use a kind of expanded foam. Presumably polyurethane.
I suppose you could try polystyrene blocks or egg cartons or polyester "fluff."

Yes. Too complex, probably. That's why I'm sceptical of it.
Also:
1) It's American
2) It's connected directly to the plastics industry
3) It's core technology is controlled by a soulless multi-national corporation (that has directly profited from slave labour before)
That's an "axis of evil," right there. We can use cotton bags
Or heat-fuse waste LDPE together to make thicker, more durable plastic shopping bags, that can be reused. No new material needed. In fact, probably no machines needed either (for small scale production.)
Also, I'm not sure any argument against durable bags is valid. I've avoided using literally hundreds (if not over a thousand) plastic bags by using non-woven polypropylene bags. They last for years and are washable.climate change models have been corrected as far I heard, downwards, no idea how it´s for you guys but here it´s being weirdly strange with every new season.

So, we need a system. And we are aware of it. I think the forum acted as a knowledge base and to me Discord is really not replacing it, just adding another tool.
You're right. That was the original intention. I think, for whatever reason, developing the new OA platform from scratch, has become much more complex than Dave intended. I think we all expected to have a new forum system by now. But as Allen Saunders said: "Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans."Unless I'm missing something.
Maybe just the custom "engraved" letters. That can maybe be done with a Dremel or desktop laser or a custom rubber stamp. Or melt the PCL in a wood / gypsum mould. (It melts at 60°C.) (edited) Does anyone have any of the bricks for sale?
